DESCRIPTION: Production Technician Sign Maker
JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Owner of Signs for San Diego, the Sign Maker will be responsible for creating the signs needed for customers, promotion, and internal use. This requires good interpersonal skills and the ability to engage the internal and external customers. The duties include interfacing with vendors, consultants, and other employees. You may also be interested in Sales and Project Coordinator
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- CNC routing
- Aluminum Welding
- Cutting, shaping and general sheet metal fab
- Interpret customer requirements in the form of drawings to “make” to the drawing
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Clean the shop and keep the shop in good condition
- Maintain equipment
- Inspect jobs for accuracy, photograph the results
- Maintain accurate records of WIP and completed jobs
- Minimize waste through efficient use of materials
- Signage installation on occasion
Additional Experience a Plus:
- Experience in aerial lifts a positive
- Accubend and design work a plus
- ShopVox software experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires education generally equivalent to an AA or bachelor’s degree in a graphic design or similar study area and 3 – 7 years hands on experience in a sign manufacturing environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years sign industry experience, including vinyl application, wide-format digital printing and graphic design
- Adobe Creative Suite proficient
- Working knowledge of color management concepts
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Passion for providing exceptional customer service
- Passion for efficient process capability
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret client documents, graphic files, and all aspects of the Adobe graphics software.
Ability to create customer proofs, write emails, letters and reports, and procedure/documentation manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, staff, clients, vendors, and the public in written or verbal format.
Spanish skills may be helpful
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with general math, sizes, font scaling, project art board scaling, proportional letters, and other basic math used to make and size signs. Proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, and Power Point) and Adobe illustrator is helpful.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to define problems collect data, establish facts, and draw valid, logical conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical and business information related to the requirements of this job.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Requires the ability to operate various printing and sign making equipment to include a MultiCam CNC router, Paint guns and booth, Accubend, HP printer, Graphtec plotter, Royal laminator, small tools such as exacto knifes, straight edges, heat guns, grommet presses, squeegees, and small hand tools. Requires good negotiation skills. This position requires travel during the day to install sites. No overnight travel is expected.
